This is my paperless, binderless 21st century evidence of my teaching competencies as a practicing Reading Specialist/Literacy Coach for Rock Valley Community School District. Digital artifacts can be found at each of the standard tabs to the left.
Reflections on the 2012-13 School Year
In my time putting this portfolio together, several things stood out to me. The first thing that I noticed was that many of my artifacts could be used in multiple categories. This shows that each category is not used in isolation, but rather all categories overlap and affect each other. All of these skills must be used simultaneously to be an effective reading instructor. Another thing that stood out to me was that all of these categories involved working in cooperation with other people. It may be other educators, volunteers, or parents that are included in different steps of the process at different times, but the communication has to be open and everyone should be working together to reach the same goal. Lastly, I noticed how many of these things I do as an embedded part of my teaching. After completing this portfolio, I’m able to see how much I have learned while completing my portfolio and how much this knowledge has impacted my teaching.
At Rock Valley, we teach and learn to empower hearts and minds. We value our strong community that supports and challenges students to think, grow, and achieve academic and social independence through shared responsibility and a commitment to lifelong learning. Our strength is in powerful teaching and learning by our staff and students. We continue to:
· Differentiate specialized instruction
· Personalize instruction by taking time to know all students
· Provide a variety of program configurations and opportunities for success
· Guide instruction with student-driven data
· Develop and maintain high expectations and standards for both students and staff
· Encourage high levels of involvement in professional development for all staff.
